AS part of its commitment to develop young Filipino leaders, the Aboitiz Group has awarded scholarship grants to 20 qualified college students nationwide—the biggest number in a single batch to date. Through the Aboitiz College Scholarship Program (ACSP), these beneficiaries can now continue and/or finish their studies this year.
“We believe that a good education is the powerful foundation exceptional leadership is built on. We are therefore supportive of programs, such as the ACSP, that champion academic excellence and shape tomorrow’s leaders,” said Txabi Aboitiz, chief human resource officer of the Aboitiz Group. “We will continue to advance business and communities through various Aboitiz programs, contributing to the greater good, contributing to making our society better.”
ACSP provides financial support, learning, experience, exposure and mentoring partnerships to undergraduate students taking up degree courses related to accountancy; business, management or finance; information technology; engineering; communications; and social sciences, such as psychology, economics and political science.
Monetary assistance covers tuition and miscellaneous fees, book requirements and transportation needs.
The scholarship is renewable per semester, provided the student maintains the grade-point average requirement of 85 percent, or its equivalent, and makes normal progress toward a degree.
Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology accountancy student Charles Flores said he is humbled to be part of this program. “I also think this will be an opportunity to be really active and make a difference.”
For Czarina Bastasa, an Information Systems student from the University of Santo Tomas, the grant will be of big help to her parents. She said: “It will take care of our needs because right now, we have lots of debts. I can see we have a great future ahead because we are provided an opportunity to grow our passion and face the future.”
They were among the scholars feted with the grant in a ceremony held at the Aboitiz Corporate Center in Bonifacio Global City on June 21, following a stringent application process that ran from February 1 to March 24.
Since last year Aboitiz has been supporting the education of 227 college students nationwide, 67 of whom are ACSP scholars. To date, the program has already produced 49 graduates in a decade. There are also 10 ACSP scholars currently working for AboitizLand, AboitizPower, Aboitiz Equity Ventures, CitySavings and UnionBank.
ACSP is part of the Aboitiz Group’s Future Talents Program, which includes the Aboitiz Future Leaders Business Summit (AFLBS), Aboitiz Legal College Scholarship Program for Excellence, Aboitiz Internship Program, as well as business unit initiatives, such as AboitizPower’s Power 101 series, AboitizPower Distribution’s Cadetship Program, UnionBank’s Management Trainee Program and Pilmico’s Junior Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science Congress.
The Aboitiz Group is expected to roll out for the remainder of the year its internship program and other student organization partnerships, while this year’s AFLBS, which will be held from November 9 to 11 in Cebu City.
