I HAVE to admit that as a brand, Happy Skin has earned my love and respect. Of course, I supported Happy Skin when it launched two years ago. I bought some of its products. My aunts in the United States would always ask for its lip crayons as gifts. My daughter uses the Aurora lipstick from Happy Skin’s collaboration with Disney, while I love the red Snow White that comes in the same set.
But I will admit it wasn’t love at first sight. The brand’s best-selling lipstick colors, such as Honeymoon Glow and Crushing On You, didn’t really look okay on my warm-toned skin. But when Happy Skin started coming out with matte versions of its “Moisturizing Lippies”, I paid attention. When it released solid reds (by solid, I mean well-pigmented and long-wearing), they had my heart.
From then on, Happy Skin had my love and respect. Besides, I always make it a point to support Filipino brands, so it wasn’t very difficult.
Happy Skin’s first collection for 2017, dubbed Festival of Colors, is another groundbreaker. The products are packaged in brightly hued and floral-inspired containers and boxes.
First, Bye Bye, Blues Brightening Concealer Wand (P899) is a cover-up makeup that illuminates and smoothens tired-looking eyes, due to a light-diffusing technology and brightening tangerine peel extract. There are two shades.
“When I first tried it, I was amazed by how much it lifted my entire face by practically erasing my dark circles. I felt like I looked 10 years younger,” Happy Skin cofounder Jacqe Yuengtian Gutierrez said.
Happy Skin’s first-ever oil-blotting sheets—the Tickled Pink Skin Perfecting Super Absorbent Charcoal Blotting Sheets (P149)—have impurity- and oil-absorbing charcoal and a special mattifying powder. So each sheet is an oil blotter and a retouching powder.
The Glisten Up! Precision Cheek Stick Set (P1,199) is a new take on the best-selling Glisten Up! Cheek Sticks. As Happy Skin cofounder Rissa Mananquil-Trillo explained it, the new tapered tips allow for more manageable contouring, especially on the bridge of the nose. This was a request of Happy Skin users, she said. So this is the thing about the brand. Rissa and Jacqe listen to their loyal customers.
For the first time, Happy Skin has come out with Lip Kits in two of its all-time best sellers—Honeymoon Glow and The Morning After—and a new shade in Dance All Day. The kits each contain a liquid lipstick and a lip liner. Both lip products contain Cupuaçu butter for a matte-yet-moisturizing finish. Again, Happy Skin listened to its customers who wanted more liquid lipsticks.
Rounding up the collection are Here To Stay 24H Gel Pencil Eyeliners (P599 each) in Perfect Black and Chic Brown and the Air Touch Sponge (P499).
And, after two years of product development, Happy Skin finally launched its sun-care line, dubbed Catch the Sun. Rissa and Jacqe were very particular about what they wanted—no white cast, high SPF, nongreasy and broad spectrum protection, among other things.
Brightening UV Gel Cream SPF 40 PA+++ (P999) is a gel cream that protects against UV rays and doubles as an antiurban pollution screen. It contains moringa seed oil to protect skin against pollution and free radicals.
Catch the Sun On the Go Hydrating UV Mist SPF 35 PA++ (P699) is perfect for the woman on the go because it is a fast-drying spray that can be used over makeup. How cool is that? Rissa shared she uses this even on her two little daughters Celestia and Audra. By the way, the Catch the Sun line was also developed without colorants, mineral oil or parabens.
I am looking forward to more liquid lipsticks and many other things from Happy Skin. So how about that red lipstick collection? I’d be the first to buy.
