IMUS CITY, Cavite—Around 596 trainees—including persons with disabilities and senior citizens—completed their computer certificate modular courses last week from the Cavite Computer Center (CCC).
Provincial Information and Communication Technology Office (PICTO) Head Camille Lauren V. del Rosario, with Senior Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) Specialist Ramir Montoya as keynote speaker, graced the commencement and recognition rites which adopted the theme “Uplifting Technology: Learn, Educate, Inspire”.
The PICTO spearheaded the ICT-literacy training for Caviteňo out-of-school youth (OSYs), government employees, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), professionals, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens at the CCC.
CCC registrar Eleazar Cayag said the computer center was established in 1999 through the Office of the Provincial Governor in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) for nonformal studies. Of the more than 500 graduates, around 190 completers were conferred outstanding awards of excellence in each class.
Cayag said the center provides computer-literacy programs for the people of Cavite, especially OSYs through modular trainings, which are Tesda-accredited, and these are categorized by lower and higher modules.
He said the lower modules category is composed of 4 modules where students learn computer skills—from the basics, to advanced computer application, database-management systems and basic troubleshooting skills.
The higher module category offers photo editing and graphic design (module 5), multimedia webpage designing using Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 (module 6), video editing and digital FX (module 7) and the Basics of Autocad2 as the latest module.
Cayag said CCC will also offer this month the Learning English Proficiency (LEP) modules and technical drafting with classes from Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cayag said Saturday classes are also offered, but student-trainees could complete the course longer by two to three months compared with the weekday batch takers who could complete the modules in two days to three days.
Cavite First District Board Member Gilbert V. Gandia and Provincial Administrator for Internal Affairs Enrico Alvarez also graced the graduation rites.
