INSURANCE Commissioner Emmanuel F. Dooc has warned the public against unscrupulous groups posing as representatives of the Insurance Commission (IC) who promise favorable treatment in their transactions with the government agency in exchange for a fee.
Dooc said there is an ongoing bogus solicitation campaign by unscrupulous groups purporting to solicit funds from t rade assoc iat ions regulated by the IC for of f ice – rel ated activities.
The modus operandi of these people even include mimicking Dooc’s voice on the phone in their solicitation activities.
These people also use all kinds of communication, such as mail, text messages and e-mail, in perpetrating their illegal acts.
Dooc has already warned the various trade associations in a letter to reiterate that the commission has not authorized anyone to solicit or raise funds on its behalf.
Aside from license fees and other legal extractions collected by the IC, the agency also generates revenue from its share in the premium tax paid by insurers on the premium collected from policyholders.
“The Insurance Commission will take all necessary steps to prevent this and apprehend the authors of these nefarious acts. Rest assured that any perpetrator found guilty will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law,” Dooc said.
He vowed he would not let anyone use his name and that of the commission in their illegal activities.
Dooc advised the insurance industry and the public to be alert against scams and bogus solicitations, and to report all suspected scams and illegal solicitations to the IC’s head office at telephone number 523- 8461 to 70.
