THE metrosexual has evolved and the latest incarnation is called the fashionmistah. Less apologetic about paying more attention to his appearance, he is self-assured without the arrogance. The term, as coined by American brand Dockers, a menswear cornerstone, means a man who wants to always look stylish and sharp.
For its 30th anniversary, Dockers issues a new style edict: the Four Pillars, its new classification system for the type of pants a man should wear on any occasion that go from slim fit to strictly formal.
The Jean Cut is the daily staple. It has double seams, rivets and five-pockets made in different finishes, fabrics and colors with a stretchy fit. This is for the rugged, easy-going type.
The Broken-In is for special events. This pair of vintage, washed-out chinos has a lived-in, laid-back vibe with its touch of stretch and strong double-needle design. This is for the stylishly smart.
The Clean Khaki can go from corporate to party. It has classic lines with a hip feel. This is for the style-savvy professional who knows how to have fun.
Finally, the Best Pressed is for high-profile formal affairs. This refined, top-shelf pair is designed with a sharp center crease and multiple fits. This is for the man-about-town who is a CEO, a caring dad, as well as a philanthropy chair.
Meanwhile, another American classic brand, Levi’s, is introducing the 505C, a modernized and remastered rendition of its ageless 505 fit. “The 505 was a symbol of counter-culture. It rose to fame during an era of unrivaled creativity in art and music,” Karyn Hillman, Levi’s brand chief product officer, said in a news statement. “We’re excited to introduce a modern and slimmer take on this classic. It’s equally and subversively sexy on both men and women.”
Thus, the “C” on 505C stands for “customized,” because the Levi’s creative team designed a customized straight leg with the preferred slim fit of today’s Levi’s lovers. The 505 is the original zip fly and had a classic straight-leg style and rigid denim, favored by 1970s pop stars and graffiti artists in New York.
Fashion has always been in love with vintage, so “there’s no better time to launch the 505C. We noticed people are buying the 505 vintage, because it has a zipper, creating a flatter front and it does that amazing Levi’s inverted heart, perky bum thing that vintage Levi’s do, so we wanted to recreate some of that,” Hillman added.
