CEBU CITY—The Cebu City government on August 20 distributed the P2,000 financial aid to 67,300 senior citizens in the city.
The amount is part of the P12,000 annual cash aid to qualified senior citizens.
Domingo Chavez, head of the city’s Office of Senior Citizen Affairs (Osca), said the financial assistance was given in the 80 barangays in the city.
The city has allotted P807.6 million for financial assistance to senior citizens this year.
Chavez said the financial assistance to the senior citizens may reach P1 billion next year.
He said this would cover the senior citizens who voted in last May’s elections and accommodate those who were on the waiting list.
Around 10,000 senior citizens are currently on the waiting list that covers the years from 2011 to present.
The ordinance stipulating the granting of the cash assistance requires beneficiaries to be registered voters in the city since 2010.
