CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga—Ninety-six certified trainees from various services in the hospitality industry have found work at Clark’s first five-star hotel, the Midori Hotel and Casino.
The new hires underwent a training course spearheaded by Clark Development Corp. (CDC).
The CDC External Affairs Department (EAD) said the training course on food and beverage (F&B) and housekeeping was conducted, in partnership with the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (Tesda) and Midori Hotel and Casino.
With the theme “Innovating Skills for a Global Clark,” the 96 individuals were given their certificates of completion by Tesda and hired at the hotel.
Of the 96 trainees, 68 passed the competency exams in F&B services, while 28 passed housekeeping services conducted by Tesda.
Midori hired all the Tesda-certified trainees.
The joint training course aims to create an international-services standard for the hotel and casino industry here through the support of Tesda under its Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP).
Enhancing the knowledge, skills and attitude, the workers were trained in accordance with the industry standards. F&B services and housekeeping training was conducted at the Midori facility.
The training was a result of a study on growing labor needs inside Clark Freeport, identifying the hotel and restaurant industry as among the growing industries here.
The F&B services training course covered the basic, common and core competencies required in the delivery of F&B service in various food-service facilities, welcoming guest and tasking F&B orders, promoting food and beverage products, providing F&B service to guest, room service and receiving and handling guests.
The housekeeping course is designed to enhance and upgrade the competency of the housekeeping staff in preparing guest rooms, providing valet/butler services, laundering lines and guest clothes, cleaning premises and equipment, in accordance with industry standards.
Based on CDC-EAD post-event report and with the success of the project, Midori wants to continue the program, adding training on front office and cookery sections, which Tesda can provide.
Tesda issued a National Assessment NC II Certificate to the completers. NC II is a proof of competency usually required for overseas and local employment.
In 2015, a memorandum of agreement was signed by CDC and Tesda seeking to create a pool of qualified, globally competitive and job-ready work force needed in the various industries here.
The state-run firm also strengthens the partnership of the different stakeholders in the generation of 100,000 jobs by 2016.
