TWO local boxers clash with Thai opponents for vacant titles in the World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council on September 10 in celebration of Kasadyaan Festival in Tupi, South Cotabato.
Sanman Promotions top prospect Reymart Gaballo takes on Manot Comput for the WBC Asia super-bantamweight title, while Romero Duno faces Paiboon Lorkam for the super-featherweight belt.
“We are happy to present the biggest show in South Cotabato this year, and I’m sure fans will enjoy a great night of boxing,” Sanman CEO Jim Claude Manangquil said.
The unbeaten 19-year-old Gaballo (14 wins, 12 knockouts) previously knocked out Jilo Merlin in the fourth round on June 26 in Gaisano Mall, General Santos City. At the same event, Duno floored Eusebio Baluarte also in the fourth round.
The double header event, dubbed as “Battle in Tupi,” is supported by Municipal Mayor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. It will be part of the annual weeklong festivities in Tupi.
“This is a world-class boxing courtesy of Mayor Tamayo and Sanman promotions,” Manangquil added.
Gaballo’s rival came from a knockout victory. The 33-year-old Comput scored a first-round technical knockout win over Thepyothin Yodwaree on Aprl 24 at the Meenayothin Camp in Bangkok.
Duno’s opponent, on the other hand, also won by a first-round TKO against Natdanai Pengthong at the same venue. However, Lorkan failed in his bid for the vacant International Boxing Federation Australasian featherweight title by losing via a third-round TKO to Nathaniel May on May 7 at WA Italian Club in Perth, Australia.
“Both of the Thai fighters are battle-tested and, hopefully, they give our young prospect some lessons,” Manangquil said.
