MIKA REYES will teeter no more as she became the seventh and last recipient of the golden ticket to the Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Stars team to the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Women’s Club World Championship set, from October 18 to 23, at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Reyes, one of the F2 Logistics, got her ticket from PSL President Tats Suzara, Chairman Phillip Juico and Training Director Sammy Acaylar before their hard-earned 25-20, 23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-8 win over Petron in the second round of the All-Filipino Conference late Thursday at De La Salle Lipa Sentrum in Lipa City.
It will be Reyes’s first time to don the national colors and her coach at De La Salle and F2 Logistics, Ramil de Jesus, hopes for the best for his ward.
“I’m happy because two of my players were chosen,” de Jesus said, also referring to another former Lady Archer now with the Cargo Movers, Kim Fajardo. “For Mika, I wish the best for her, but she needs to work hard and exert more effort because PSL trusts her so much.”
The longtime De La Salle coach added that what makes Reyes different from other middle hitters is her “tempo zero” speed, which in volleyball term is the quickest of all quick attacks.
With Reyes and Fajardo are Rachel Anne Daquis and Jovelyn Gonzaga of RC Cola-Army, Jen Reyes and Ces Molina of Petron and Jaja Santiago of Foton.
The PSL All-Stars opens its bid in Pool A against Southern America powerhouse Rexona Ades of Brazil. They take a day’s breal before facing European champions Pomi Casalmaggiore of Italy and defending champion Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul of Turkey the next day.
