UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help tries to sustain the momentum of its upset of defending champion Letran when it battles College Saint Benilde on Tuesday in the 92nd National Collegiate Athletic Association seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan City.
The Altas, behind Bright Akhuetie’s monster performance, stunned the Knights, 61-55, on Friday to clinch a share of fourth spot with the Arellano University on a 3-2 (win-loss) record.
The bullstrong Akhuetie finished with 21 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks as the Altas found a way to slow down Rey Nambatac.
Akhuetie will play a Saint Benilde team, which has lost all its six games so far, at 4 p.m.
Arellano University also seeks to join Letran at No. 3 when it faces off Emilio Aguinaldo College (1-4) at 12 noon. Lyceum of the Philippines University (2-3) clashes with San Sebastian College (1-4) at 2 p.m.
San Beda, meanwhile, beat San Sebastian, 74-66, to nail its sixth straight win, while Perpetual Help overran Letran, 88-68, to bolster its Final Four bid in juniors basketball action on Monday at the Filoil Flying V Center.
Sam Abu Hijle exploded with a season-high 30 points he spiked with 14 rebounds, while Joshua Tagala and Evan Nelle scattered 12 and 11 points, respectively, to help power the “eight-peat-seeking” Red Cubs to their sixth straight win.
The Junior Altas, for their part, were led by Jielo Razon, who erupted with 23 points for the Junors Altas, who also drew 15 points from Errol Bongay, 10 markers from Jasper Cuevas and 10 from Esvin Inliwan. Perpetual Help improved to 4-3.
