Banco De Oro (BDO) Unibank Inc. remains the country’s largest in terms of both assets and capital as at end-March this year, data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas show.
With P1.987 trillion total assets at end-March this year, the Sy-led lender tops the list of the biggest universal and commercial banks in the country.
Ty-led Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co. (MetroBank) trails second in the lot, with total asset pool of P1.376 trillion, while government-owned lender Land Bank of the Philippines is the third largest in terms of assets at P1.285 trillion.
The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is the fourth-largest bank in terms of assets with a total resource base of P1.248 trillion.
Philippine National Bank’s P647.06 billion makes it the fifth-largest, while Security Bank Corp.’s P516.59 billion is the sixth largest in the country.
State-owned Development Bank of the Philippines is the seventh-largest bank in terms of assets at P483.08 billion, China Banking Corp. in eighth place, with P470.32 billion, and Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) at the ninth sport, with P408.27 billion. Unionbank of the Philippines is the 10th-largest bank in the Philippines, with assets worth P355.38 billion.
As for foreign banks operating in the country, Citibank has the biggest asset pool, with P295.52 billion, making it the 11th biggest in the list. HSBC, meanwhile, has assets totaling P186.76 billion, making them the 14th-largest bank in the country.
Japan-based Bank of Tolyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd. (BTMU), meanwhile, is No. 18 in the list, with total assets of P104.92 billion. Malaysia-based Maybank Philippines follows BTMU at No. 19, with total assets of P89.78 billion.
In terms of their ranking as to total stockholder’s equity, BDO still ranks first with a total capital of P203.201 billion, followed by MetroBank at P185.48 billion and BPI at P151.02 billion.
PNB comes in at fourth with P99.48 billion total capital, LandBank at fifth with P90.12 billion, RCBC at sixth with P59.8 billion and Security Bank at seventh with P56.02 billion in total capital.
