Yes, the
iconic Playboy magazine will soon have a Philippine
edition.
The
person behind this project is an importer of beer and
cigarettes. Uh-uh, it’s not who you think it is. The
guy’s pretty young, you know.
There
are currently two foreign publications catering to that
particular male segment. There’s the Gokongwei-controlled
Summit Publishing for FHM and the Lopez group for
Maxim.

Because of overwhelming requests, a Manila Peninsula
Hotel function room may be named after Senator Antonio
Trillanes IV. Just ask any sales person pushing the
hotel’s privilege card.
As
everybody knows, Trillanes recently used the Manila Pen
as a, uhm, hugely visible forum to ask for the
resignation of President Macapagal-Arroyo.

The sugar you buy in supermarkets is probably imported.
You see, locally produced sugar is about P300 per bag
more expensive.
Then,
there is, of course, the problem of massive sugar
smuggling.

There’s talk that former Far East Bank executive vice
president and Philippine National Bank director Vicente
Panlilio may end as president of Export and Industry
Bank.
You see,
current president Nilo Pacheco has other plans.
The
Security Bank board chaired by Frederick Dy has approved
the hiring next year of about 50 relationship officers,
for starters. Think wealth banking managers for high net
worth individuals but brought down to the broad C
market.
Essentially, these relationship officers will take care
of the consolidated needs of individual clients. If a
client needs a loan, he/she just talks to the same
relationship officer who also handles his/her money
market, dollar account, credit card and so on.
Needless
to say, the bank will also invest over the next three
years a huge amount for training and technology upgrade.
The bank
ended the third quarter with the best return on equity
within the industry, followed by Bank of the Philippine
Islands. ChinaBank is also among the top three most
profitable banks for stockholders.
Pfizer
Phils. now sells a tablet that may be useful to those
who want to make quit smoking as New Year’s resolution.
Basically, the tablet, which is taken once a day for
three months, eliminates the feel-good sensation caused
by nicotine and instead makes the smoker feel terribly
bad with every puff.
The
90-day treatment costs P8,000; less with a 40-percent
discount if you ask your cardiologist for a Pfizer
“Sulit” card. |
