FILIPINOS have a knack for developing web content, a
trait could be instrumental in making the country a
center for content development services, according to
Ricky Banaag, country manager for Intel Microelectronics
(Phils.) Inc.
Speaking
at a recent Intel and Machinimasia 2007 regional road
show in Makati City, Banaag said that the dream is at
hand, considering that filmmaking hybrid genre machinima—a
popular collection of film-like production techniques
that render real-time and interactive 3-D applied
engines from a gaming environment—has extended its reach
to the country after it launched in Singapore last year.
“Through
machinima Filipinos are positioned to be creators not
only users, especially those who have keen interest in
the gaming world,” Banaag said.
He
believes further development of local content is highly
in demand today in education, entertainment and
entrepreneurship that Intel collaborated with Creative
Media and Film Society of the Philippines (CreaM) to
encourage people in the original creation of content
development, while adhering to standards of excellence.
It also imparts skill-building in digital arts through
series of workshops, applications and competitions.
CreaM
founder Imee Marcos on the other hand, expressed
happiness with the initiative as she and her group aim
to position the country as creative media producer of
Southeast Asia.
“Pure
film no longer exists; its evolution has included
computer generated imagery, animation, effects, music
and anything that moves. It’s time to create a sensibly
Pinoy platform which we could market at the
international level,” Marcos said.
Intel
together with Machinimasia—the Singapore chapter of the
Academy of Machinima Arts and Sciences—conducted
workshops last December 15 and 16 at the Ascott Makati
using the popular online game from eGames Philippines,
Granado Espada—a fantasy, free-to-play, massively
multiplayer online role-playing gamedeveloped by IMC
Games Co., Ltd. of Korea and is licensed in the
Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam through
IAHGames.
During
the workshop, participants were asked in a spirit of
competition to create a two minute digital film for the
chance to win an Intel Core 2 Quad processor-based PC
and a Granado Espada limited edition starter kit.
The
activity was intended to foster spectators and give
aspiring content creators insight on how they can easily
craft short films and how to integrate film fundamentals
such as script, cast, costumes and cinematography. |
