  • SEAG Secretariat head Mundo
trip to Kuwait with PSC blessing

Philippine Sports Commissioner Joey Mundo should attend to his responsibilities as head of Team Philippines Secretariat but instead he is in Kuwait on an “unspecified” official trip.

According to PSC chairman William Ramirez, Mundo, a former coach and official of the Philippine National Shooting Association prior to his appointment in the PSC, is currently in Kuwait, although he didn’t mention the details of the Commissioner’s trip he mentioned that the trip was about a shooting event.

“Commissioner Mundo asked my blessing to travel to Kuwait. As member of the board, all of us are honorable men and when he came to me with papers for an official trip, I signed it in good faith,” said Ramirez.

“It’s an official trip based on the documents he presented. As to what his reason was for going to Kuwait instead of Thailand is a question only he can answer,” he added.

Go said in an overseas call from Thailand that Mundo’s absence is taking its toll on the RP delegation since the setup at the secretariat was not clearly established and reservations in accommodations were not yet settled.

“He had abandoned his post. Who will call the shots here? Magulo na nga ang setup ng host [Thailand], tapos nadagdagan pa sa magulong set-up ng secretariat,” Go lamented.

When asked if Mundo’s actions could be considered a conflict of interest, Ramirez refused to give specific answer.

“When we were appointed as commissioners we were asked to give up our other positions in sports but we will look into it,” Ramirez said.

“We will try to know if there were lapses in ethics. If there are complaints, he will have to face them,” he added. Zenaida Dadacay
