    Discovering a fabulous refuge

PRETTY certain that the past week and some days have gotten your spirits down, sweetie—and just when everybody seemed ready to finally surrender themselves to the spirit of the holidays. (I surrendered as early as October, if you must know.) Needless to say, we have a few incredibly ambitious and incredibly greedy and, ultimately, incredibly stupid politicians and would-be politicians to thank for this awful holiday wet blanket. Oh, let us not forget, sweetie, certain media personalities who, in their obvious bloated sense of self-importance, have made the days following that pathetic incident at The Pen less about the nefarious activities of a gaggle of military adveturists than their ruffled feathers. Or don’t you tune in to AM radio, where some portly bespectacled gentleman is taken to snarking and ranting every morning like some lunatic about them journalists being the gatekeepers of democracy—this, due to the stringing up and detention of some media members following that latest bit of military adventurism, and before the so-called host-commentator segues into endless pitching for a variety of products for which he gets paid lots. Then again, we all have to work hard for the money, sweetie.

But enough of this yapping about sordid realities. It’s Christmas and we must focus on the things that make our days merry and bright—like experiencing Boracay in ways so luxurious that you might be tempted to forever turn your back on Metro Manila. Yes, sweetie, I do realize that summer 2007 has long passed and the balmy days of 2008 are still months away, but this island paradise in the off-season is even more glorious from where I sit—and especially when you’re at the receiving end of all the luxe pampering that Discovery Shores Boracay provides to all its guests, as I was some weeks ago.

Now, given that BusinessMirror columnist Stella Arnaldo came out recently with that charming travel piece about Discovery Shores, I won’t bore you with such things as how marvelously laid-out and put-together this luxury resort development is, giving it a distinctly Miami vibe while remaining distinctly and proudly local; or how the room appointments are so utterly dreamy that you would be unbelievably torn between staying in and enjoying Discovery Shores’ marvelous swimming pool or that glorious strip of white-sand beach that Boracay is known for globally; or how it feels almost totally decadent to have your own personal butler at your beck and call; or how the resort’s Sands Bar must serve the most glorious glass of mojitos around these parts of the world!

Of course, if you’re more the soon-to-be bride than a lush like me who can always be easily had for a cocktail, not unlike the small plate of salted peanuts that goes with it, well, sweetie, I’m sure you’d be thrilled to know that Discover Shores now offers “Happy Ever After” fairy-tale wedding/honeymoon packages—each tailored according to the Four Seasons of Love: El Otoño (Autumn), La Verano (Summer), El Primavera (Spring), El Invierno (Winter)—which are available to coosome couples who have committed to making their togetherness official and binding (well, at least until one screws up and the other starts annulment proceedings). Now, couples can leave all the dirty wedding details and the fulfillment of their personal fairy tale to the experts of Discovery Shores, which, by the way, is a distinguished member of the exclusive Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

If you want more details on the packages and value-addons, sweetie, you just need to call (6332) 683-8392 or 683-8222, locals 3929/3438 for Manila; (6336) 288-4500 for Boracay; or visit the resort’s web site www.discoveryshoresboracay.com.

My recent stay at Discovery Shores coincided with the resort’s first-anniversary celebration, which was marked by nice-and-quick performances by Rachelle Ann Go and Mark Bautista, and a wonderful fashion show where some of the resort’s yummy staff modeled the steamy and striking clothes provided by Folded & Hung. Naturally, sweetie, the movers and shakers of the resort and its sister properties—Discovery Suites, Discovery Country Suites Tagaytay and the upcoming Misibis in Legaspi, Bicol—were on-hand for the celebration, led by the fabulous Annabell Wisniewski, the president of HSAI Raintree, the company managing all these hotel and resort developments, and is responsible for all this luxurious fabulosity.

    Cheers to all.
