    Oracle launches solutions center

    By Rizal Raoul Reyes
    Correspondent

ORACLE Philippines recently launched the Oracle Global Development and Delivery Center in the country.

Francis Ong, managing director of Oracle Philippines, said the center is a milestone for Oracle’s Philippine unit and will benefit the country in terms of technology development. “Oracle has invested in a dedicated business unit based at this center that will develop cutting-edge solutions for the utilities industry and the public sector in the Philippines and also globally. This center will contribute to the efforts of the global product development teams,” Ong said in a statement.

Ong said the center will develop solutions specifically for the utilities industry as well as to support the development of tax-management software for the public sector. At the same time, the center will extend the capabilities and efforts of Oracle’s global product development teams.

Through the center, Ong said Oracle will harness and develop Filipino talents in information technology, and at the same time boost closer cooperation with its partners, ultimately to better serve its customers.

The center was originally set up in Manila by SPL WorldGroup, a leading provider of revenue and operations management software for the utilities industry. Oracle acquired SPL in November 2006.

Ong pointed out that Oracle is now in a stronger position to offer the most comprehensive portfolio of technology and applications solutions that are uniquely tailored for companies across key industries and geographies. “Oracle continues to invest in talent that will focus on developing the breadth and depth of our business solutions portfolio.”

Through the center, Ong said Oracle can deliver several benefits to clients. This includes real time customer care, increased revenue management, improved competitive advantage, single vendor support and ability to address evolving customer needs.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney commended Oracle for spearheading a program aimed at developing local talents in the IT industry.

“I think it is exciting that a top flight American company such as Oracle is developing software solutions right here in this country and helping to nurture the growth of the local IT industry through this center,” Kenney said in a statement.
