THE percentage tax collection of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) failed to measure up in the first nine months and forced the Department of Finance (DOF) to question whether leaks in the system or inefficiency on the part of collectors brought the actual tax take to only P32.4 billion.

TKC Steel Corp. is building the first blast furnace in the Philippines, which is expected to cost from P800 million to P1 billion.

The plant, to be built in Iligan City, will be operational in October 2008, according to Ben C. Tiu, chairman of TKC Steel, whose family owns Goodyear Steel Corp., the Philippines’ biggest steel maker.
