    Sam threatens Lolit with lawsuit

For the first time, I got a glimpse of Sam Milby’s dark side.

I mean, I’ve known the guy for more than a year now and while he may not come across as such, he really is one cheerful guy. I mean, the grumpiest I’d ever seen him was when his sleep got interrupted. The most exasperated I ever saw him was when he was asking “tips” from me on how to get closer to Toni Gonzaga back when he was still courting her. In fact, when a Tamaraw FX driver crashed into his car, almost killing him and his companion at the time, a fashion editor/stylist, he even declined to sue because he felt sorry for the driver, saying that the driver is “a family man; besides, my insurance would take care the repairs.” He was just glad to come out of the incident alive.

But in a recent episode of The Buzz, a visibly angry Sam Milby explained that, no, he was never at Hotel Sofitel the day TV host and tabloid columnist Lolit Solis allegedly saw him and Piolo Pascual together. He insisted that he was at a salon getting his haircut that day. He then demanded Lolit for a public apology and a retraction of what she had written, or else he will press charges.

Looks like he is indeed serious, because I got a copy of a letter from the law firm representing him and Piolo. I am printing it here verbatim.

    Subject: Demand Letter

    Ms. Solis:

We are writing in behalf of our clients, Mssrs. Samuel Lloyd Milby and Piolo Jose N. Pascual.

Our cleints referred to us the matter of libelous material, which you wrote in your 15 October 2007 column in Pilipino Star Ngayon. Other articles referring to the same subject matter were subsequently published in other tabloids.

In your article, you narrated that you saw our clients together at a Sofitel Hotel coffee shop, the previous Friday, 12 October 2007, at around 4:00 pm, their manner toward each other unexpected from two gentlemen. Your article has left no doubt in the minds of the readers, that you intended our clients to be perceived as gay men.

Unfortunately, our clients were not at Sofitel on 12 October 2007. They were not even together on the said date.  Hence, your story was without any factual basis, and clearly a falsehood.

Besides being a complete lie, your narrative contained words and phrases that were indisputably defamatory, for they impute upon our clients a condition, which is sufficient to impeach their reputation as matinee idols and hold them up to public ridicule. Your article has undoubtedly shown your objective of maligning and injuring the reputation of our clients.

In view of the foregoing, we hereby demand a retraction of your malicious article, as well as a public apology. After having maliciously maligned our clients, it is only appropriate that you dispel the negative impression created by your libelous article. Should you fail to do so within ten (10) days from your receipt of this latter, we shall be constrained to take whatever legal action is appropriate and necessary to protect the interests of our clients.

Our clients still hope that the above matter would be settled without resort to court action. We appeal to your common decency, and hope you will correct what you have done and refrain from further inflicting injury to our clients.

We trust that this matter merits your preferencial attention.

    Very truly yours,

    Rayala Alonso and Partners
