  • Harbour braces for rough sailing

    By Reuben Terrado
    Reporter

HARBOUR Centre is expecting rough sailing in the upcoming Philippine Basketball League (PBL) season.

The Batang Pier captured five consecutive titles, making them the most dominating franchise in the league right now.

But this season could be different.

It will be a new-look Harbour Centre squad as most of its stars have joined the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), particularly Solomon Mercado, TY Tang, Beau Belga and Jason Castro.

Naubos kami,” said Harbour Centre team owner Mikee Romero. “Twelve of our players went to the PBA. It will be a miracle if we become champions again.”

Harbour Centre entered in a tie-up with Far Eastern University to beef up its campaign in the coming season that starts on November 8.

But so did the other squads.

The other teams have embraced the concept of tying up with schools—Hapee (Ateneo), Burger King (San Beda), San Mig Coffee (University of Santo Tomas), Toyota (Letran and Jose Rizal University) and Pharex (Adamson).

“We expect an exciting PBL season because of the tie-ups with schools,” said PBL commissioner Chino Trinidad. “Nakabibilib ang mga possible combination of players.”

Expected to shine for the Batang Pier are Benedict Fernandez, JR Cawaling, Aldrech Ramos, Reil Cervantes and Andy Barroca.
