    PC-less device for online
    games is now in RP

A new device that provides fast Internet connection for online games does not need a personal computer to fulfill its promise, the company that makes the gadget said in a statement given to the media.

Buffalo Technology said the device is the Buffalo Wi-Fi Gamers, or WCA-G. Austin, Texas-based Buffalo Technology specializes in the design, development and manufacture of wired and wireless networking, storage and memory solutions for the home and small businesses.

The WCA-G provides online and wireless experiences by connecting to the Internet without going through a PC.

“The Buffalo Wi-Fi Gamers device is the only access point available that does not need a complicated wireless setup which, in turn, enhances the gaming experience,” said Morikazu Sano, senior vice president of global sales and marketing for Buffalo Technology, in the statement.

The device, Sano said, eliminates the need to establish a secure wireless connection to the Internet and does not require a security key after the first entry. “This allows users to immediately start playing online games,” he added.

The WCA-G also supports popular gaming consoles like Nintendo Wii, DS, DS Lite, Sony PSP and Playstation 3. The product helps simplify Internet gaming and lets users access online games with the push of a button.

Sano said at the heart of the product is a Buffalo AirStation One-Touch Secure System, or AOSS.  While the system provides instant Internet connection, it also remembers security settings and allows various devices to link wirelessly and securely with minimal user setup.

The WCA-G is about the size of a deck of playing cards. It can also be plugged to a LAN port. Once connected, players need only press an AOSS button on the device and a gaming-console screen appears. This way, gamers can immediately and securely play online games.

It also manages different security support levels among different gaming consoles, which Sano said is ideal for setting up of multiple-gaming devices. The product is exclusively distributed in the Philippines by MSI-ECS.
