ATENEO
won another University Athletic Association of the
Philippines (UAAP) title after the Blue Eaglets scored a
71-60 win over Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes
Educational Foundation in Game Two on Saturday at The
Arena in San Juan.
The Blue
Eaglets duplicated their elders’ conquest against De La
Salle, which netted the school its fourth seniors crown
Thursday.
The
juniors crown was the 16th for Ateneo, which yielded the
title to De La Salle-Zobel last season.
“Siguro
for me, plano lahat ng Diyos ito,” said
Ateneo coach Jamike Jarin. “Last year was painful.
Pero mas masakit pala if we lost the championship
now and the seniors won. Mas masakit pala iyon.”
Only
four of the eight members of the UAAP has won both the
seniors’ and juniors crowns. Adamson did it in 1977,
Ateneo in 1987, University of Santo Tomas in 1994 and De
La Salle last year.
“Iyong
sakit namin last season, binawi namin.
Imagine, we made history here,” said Jarin.
The
38-year-old Jarin admitted there was pressure to win the
juniors title after the seniors’ won.
“I’ll be
lying if I say no. Of course, there was [pressure]. But
I said to them to stay relaxed and focus. We are happy
that the college team won. We will be very happy na
kami naman para masaya rin tayo,” said Jarin, who is
also a member of the coaching staff of the Blue Eagles.
