    gambling in Makati building

A LEGISLATOR is seeking a congressional investigation in aid of legislation on the alleged online gambling operations being conducted at the Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) tower in Makati City.

Liberal Party Rep. Cecilia Seares-Luna of Abra has filed House Resolution 719, directing the Committee on Games and Amusement to conduct an investigation into the said alleged unauthorized online gaming with the end in view of creating stronger legislation that will address these kinds of illegal activities.

Seares-Luna said there have been reports of unauthorized and rampant Internet gaming operations by several multinational corporations in the RCBC Tower despite the fact that only the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) is the only government agency that has been mandated to operate such gaming activities in the country.

She added these companies or corporations are allegedly conducting gambling operations without any authorization from Pagcor and are depriving the government of its needed revenues.

“Any form of gaming operation in the country is reasonably expected and the government allows these operations mainly to generate or to give the needed revenues to the government,” Seares-Luna said.

But the proliferation of unauthorized Internet gaming, Seares-Luna said, particularly in high-end places such as the RCBC Tower in Makati City, simply doesn’t serve the purpose that these Internet gaming activities were designed for.
