    from Ateneo-La Salle duel

ADIDAS expects its sales of Ateneo and De La Salle merchandise to reach its peak when the champion of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 71 men’s basketball tournament between rivals Blue Eagles and Green Archers is known.

“That is what we are expecting. Now, we are doing some promos during the finals buy it will still depend on the crowd which will troop to the venue and the team who will be the champion,” Goody Custodio, Adidas sports marketing manager, told the BusinessMirror.

“But we expect it to peak when there is already a champion team,” Custodio added.

Adidas is the official supplier of Ateneo and De La Salle uniforms, as well as merchandise for fans. The brand has been supplying Ateneo uniforms and merchandise for the second straight season, while it is only on its first year with De La Salle.

Custodio said Ateneo and De La Salle merchandise have been picking up lately after both teams advanced to the finals.

“During the first and second rounds, medyo slow siya but coming to the finals, lalo na during the Final Four, slowly, nagpi-pick-up na, especially sa La Salle,” said Custodio.

“Well, kasi this is the first year we are doing [team wear] for La Salle that is maybe why they are increasing recently,” said Custodio.

Ateneo leads the best-of-three championship series against De La Salle after a 69-61 win in Game One Sunday. The Blue Eagles look to sweep the series on Thursday. Game Three, if necessary, is set on Sunday.

Custodio said bestsellers are the jackets.

Kasi you can wear it every day anywhere, unlike the shirts kasi you could use it only for a day, and wash and wear,” Custodio said.

Adidas is also selling merchandise outside the Araneta Coliseum during game days.
