    Don Enrico now on top

DON ENRICO zoomed to the top of the standings with earnings of P4.68 million as the Philippine Racing Commission (Philracom) released the latest in the earnings of major players from January to August this year.

The three-year-old colt by Wind Blown out of Kayumanggi had already posted nine victories and one third-place finish in 11 outings so far this year and is expected to be one of the major participants in the blue-ribbon Presidential Gold Cup.

Don Enrico’s archrival, Indelible Ink, dropped back to second place with P3,542,866 after posting 3-2-1 first-second-third finishes after eight months.

In third place is veteran Real Spicy, the stablemate of Don Enrico, which had already won five races this year, with P2.62 million so far.

Nowhere in sight in the top 50 that we are printing here is Es Twenty Six, the winningest horse of 2007 owned by Nery Sunga, which is also expected to see action in the Gold Cup.

THE three major stakes races sponsored by the Philracom that will be held this Sunday at the San Lazaro Leisure Park promises to be a great rumble among the best two-year-olds and imported runners.

Highly fancied Go Army (to be ridden by JB Hernandez) of Hermie Esguerra leads six other young colts in the second leg of the Philracom Juvenile Colts Championship Series that is set at 1,500-meter distance. The other contenders are Jun Paman’s High Tower (EM Raquel), Eugene Tan’s Elgin And Chairman (John Cordero), Patrick Uy’s So Real (Jesse Guce), Bibiana Guce’s Batangas Baron (John Alvin Guce), Eugene Poquinto’s Far Beyond (Kelvin Abobo) and Manny Santos’s Oh Wacky (EP Nahilat).

Meanwhile, 10 two-year-old fillies are seeing action also in the second leg of the Philracom Juvenile Fillies Championship Series. They are Hermie Esguerra’s French Vanilla (JB Hernandez) and Nuclear Power (Pati Dilema), Romy Hernandez’s Lovable Frances (Jesse Guce), Manny Santos’s Mind Music (Kelvin Abobo) and Love You By Heart (EP Nahilat), Antonio Cayco’s Maimpok (MA Alvarez), Ric Aquino’s Rhea’s Gold (CJ Reyes), Tony Eleazar’s Security World (Fernando Raquel Jr.), Leonora Pasion’s Bon Jour (Lyndon Guce) and Enrique Pineda’s Teen Titan (Roderick Hipolito).

These two major stakes races sponsored by Philracom stake P1 million each, with the winner receiving the top prize of P600,000. The runner-up picks up P225,000, while the third and fourth placers get P125,000 and P50,000, respectively.

Meanwhile, there will be seven challengers in the Philracom Sapphire I Stakes, which serves as the sixth leg of the Imported/Local Challenge Series. The official entries here are Raymund Puyat’s Al-Azeem, LB Tamano, 53; Tony de Ubago’s Frapuuvel, Karbin Malapira, 55; Ruben Laureano’s Sweet Xarah, EP Nahilat; Joseph Dyhengco’s Drama Belle, Dominador Borbe Jr., 54; Hermie Esguerra’s Blind Date, JB Hernandez, 53.5; Gilda Bradd’s Great Emma, Jesse Guce, 55; and SC Stockfarm’s Ziraz, Roderick Hipolito, 54.

All these stakes races will be disputed over the same 1,500-meter distance. The Philracom Sapphire has a total of P500,000 at stake with the winner receiving P300,000, while the runner-up picks up P112,500, third P62,500 and fourth P25,000.
