IT looks like consumers have gotten tired and bored of the drab gray colors most laptops sport.

A study conducted by electronics manufacturer Dell found that laptop colors have become very important to users. “They see colors as an extension of their personalities,” explained Barry Bunyi, Dell country manager.

The Dell Philippines representative office on Wednesday launched the new Studio brand product lines composed of the 9-inch Inspiron Mini laptop, 15.4-inch and 17-inch Studio laptops that come in a variety of colors as well as the Studio Hybrid, the company’s smallest desktop PC.

The company aims to offer the 9-inch laptop to students and beginner computer-users that offer full communication features and weighs only 2.28 pounds. The Studio laptops and Studio Hybrid brands are targeted for adults and professionals with mobile lifestyles.

The eight colors of laptops showed during the press launch include flamingo pink, midnight blue, plum purple, tangerine orange, ruby red, spring green jet black and graphite grey. The Studio laptops come prebuilt with a 2-megapixel camera, a Wi-fi catcher that offers five times Internet access and an optional Blu-ray optical disc drive.

Dell also said the Studio can show photo slides just like digital photo frames without having to completely boot up the laptop. It also comes with the patented Dell Dock that automatically sorts application recently accessed by the user in a customizable taskbar to avoid the presence of icons desktops as well as the Dell Video Chat, a one-click icon for video calls, voice over internet protocol and instant messenger applications.

Meanwhile, the Hybrid PC is as small as an encyclopedia and can be set up whether in horizontal or vertical spaces. It also gives users the option to change the color of its external finishes like bamboo, emerald, quartz, ruby, sapphire, slate and topaz. This unit can be connected to a high-definition television set via a standard HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port.

Through Dell authorized dealers, computer hopefuls can now buy the Inspiron Mini for P24,599; the Studio 15 for P61,399; and the Studio 17 for P87,399.

“We believe these products—backed by Dell’s institutional brand of quality and reliability—will be appealing to the market,” said Bunyi. “We don’t really mind competition among other mini-laptop manufacturers.”
