THE
weather in Metro Manila is expected to be rainy, at
least until Friday, due to Typhoon Karen that is
threatening Northern Luzon, which is now about 450
kilometers east southeast of Tuguegarao City moving west
at 22 kilometers per hour (kph).
The
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical
Services Administration (Pagasa) said Typhoon Karen has
intensified to maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near
the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.
As of 2
a.m. on Tuesday, public storm warning Signal No. 3 was
hoisted over Cagayan and Isabela, while public storm
warning Signal No. 2 is up over Batanes, the Babuyan
Group of Islands, Calayan Group of Islands, Apayao,
Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Quirino, Northern Aurora
and Nueva Vizcaya.
Public
storm warning Signal No. 1 was raised over Ilocos Norte,
Ilocos Sur, Abra, Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Nueva
Ecija, the rest of Aurora and Polilio Island.
Pagasa
said the typhoon is expected to enhance the southwest
monsoon and bring rains over the entire country,
especially the western sections.
Residents along coastal areas under storm warning Signal
No. 2 and 3 are alerted against big waves and storm
surges generated by this tropical cyclone.
By
tomorrow, the typhoon is expected to be in the vicinity
of northern Cagayan or 50 kilometers east of Aparri.
