Filipina-American Dorothy Delasin shot a woeful
three-over-par 74 Saturday which virtually flushed her
chase for the crown in the CN Canadian Women’s Open in
Alberta and the opportunity to finish in the top 20 for
the first time in the current Ladies Professional Golf
Association (LPGA) season.
Delasin
was just six strokes behind joint leaders Juli Inkster
and Shi Hyun Ahn after the second round and even moved
closer with a one-under 35 in the first nine holes in
the third round.
Delasin,
however, failed to capitalize. She missed the green of
the par-four No. 12 for a bogey. On the par-four 17th,
the four-time LPGA winner’s drive landed in the rough
and then two-putted for a double bogey. Another bogey
on the 18th added to that 74 and 215, way off the 199
scored by new leader Lorena Ochoa.
Jennifer
Rosales, on the comeback trail after recovering from a
nagging wrist injury, made 76 and 74 for 150 and failed
to make it past the two-day cut of 145.
Jay
Bayron, meanwhile, never got back into contention as he
faltered with a four-over-par 75 in the final day to end
up at joint 17th in the 2007 Scratch Players
Championship at the Del Rio Country Club course in
Modesto, California.
The
27-year-old amateur was still in the hunt for the title
and a chance to qualify in US Amateur Open when he came
through with a six-under 65 in the second round followed
by a one-under 70. But he closed out with the worst
score in four days.
Bayron
had 283 total, 11 off champion Rick Kulacz, who
submitted a two-over-par 73 for 272. Mu Hu of China
checked in at second with a four-under 67 and 273.
Third was Robe Grube with 274. |
