So you want to look like a celebrity?

    By Tet Andolong

A HEALTHY diet, exercise and how you carry yourself are still the basics to looking and feeling good and healthy. However, these days anybody can be revitalized and look young again with the latest in nonsurgical rejuvenation and cosmetic surgery at the Cosmetic Surgery Center of Asian Hospital and Medical Center, located at the Filinvest Corporate City in Alabang, Muntinlupa.

A group of doctors at the Asian Hospital recently gave a series of lectures on how to look like somebody out of showbiz, even showing before and after photos of the latest procedures.

One of the most common nonsurgical cosmetic treatments for skin enhancement is called the Elos dermatology (electro-optical synergy). It uses a combination of radiofrequency and light to isolate the treatment area and leave the surrounding skin free from harmful side effects, assuring the highest level of safety and comfort. A device called Polaris utilizes the Elos technology to address two areas of concern: wrinkle reduction (WR) and leg veins (LV). The technology for WR uses combined energies to produce results at multiple levels, making it possible to treat fine wrinkles at the surface while penetrating into the dermis to treat deeper wrinkles—all in the same procedure. Meanwhile, according to Dr. Janet de Grano, “the LV treatment can address both smaller spider veins and moderately larger leg veins.”

Dr. de Grano adds, “Hair removal laser is also available for men and women. Say goodbye to unwanted hair growth on all body areas, including upper lip, chin, neck, underarms, bikini line, legs and back. Achieving beautiful, silky smooth skin is now easier than ever with the advanced technology of Elos.” The treatment does not require downtime or sedation. The average procedure takes less than 30 minutes to perform and patients may return to work immediately without pain and side effects.

Another nonsurgical treatment performed a lot these days is called Botox, which is remarkably effective, safe and well tolerated as shown by 15 years of efficacy and safety in clinical use worldwide. “It is the only approved Botulinum toxin type A by the US Food and Drug Administration [FDA],” Botox expert Dr. Gio Dimayuga said.

Botox is used widely for the elimination of frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet or smile lines around the eyes. Furthermore, it can be used to lift and shape the eyebrow or open up the eyes for a more youthful appearance, to soften folds between the nose and mouth, to remove chin dimpling and creasing, and reduce neck folds. Some of the new trends are face slimming and calf contouring by reducing the muscle volume. Reduction of excessive sweating and body odor—by blocking the nerves transmission to the sweat glands—is also another new procedure that uses Botox.

Mesotherapy, meanwhile, is a nonsurgical method for the elimination of cellulite and for facial rejuvenation. It is painless and does not require any form of anesthesia. It involves an injection of vitamins, amino acids and medication cocktails into the skin. According Asian Hospital’s Dr. Loverna Suratos, “If you want something removed, (you can) remove it. Mesotherapy destroys fats directly, is fast-acting, effective and a very safe procedure.” The treatment has to be done on a regular basis to achieve visible results, but results, however, are not the same in all patients.

The cosmetic surgeries performed at Asian Hospital include Abdominoplasty, which is also known as a “tummy tuck”; Blepharoplasty, also known as an eyelid surgery that removes fat along with excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids, resulting in a more alert and youthful look; breast augmentation; breast lift or mastopexy, to raise and reshape sagging breasts without change in volume, and also reduce the size of the areola (the dark area surrounding the nipples) as well as reposition of the nipples; breast reduction; rhytidectomy, more popularly known as a facelift, which will help erase the years by tightening the skin around the face and neck; forehead lift or brow lift, which corrects drooping brows and improves the horizontal lines and furrows on the forehead.

And to complete that movie star look, Asian Hospital also caters to complete dental needs as well as periodontics, orthodontics and oral surgery services. You can now have not only your teeth weightened but also gaps closed, those silver fillings of yore changed to something more natural-looking, and just about everything else to achieve that megawatt Julia Roberts smile.

According to the doctors of the Cosmetic Surgery Center of Asian Hospital and Medical Center, their clientele is not limited to celebrities, foreigners and rich people. Middle-class folk can also avail themselves of the affordable in- and out-patient services.

Call Asian Hospital at 771-9000 up to 9002 for consultation and more information.
