    Vhong dodges questions about Desiree

DESPITE his status as a popular comedian, Vhong Navarro remains as humble as ever. That’s what I like about him. I first met him when he was still a supporting cast member in Whattamen, and the Vhong now is the Vhong I met many years ago.

The Vhong you see on-cam is the Vhong you see off-cam. He goofs around on the set, making everyone people laugh with his rib-tickling antics. Even if the shooting conditions are far from perfect, Vhong manages to lighten up the set with his jokes. Even if it’s already 3 am and there are a lot of sequences still to be shot, he continues to flash that crazy grin of his and throw punchlines with gusto. It’s like as if he is a wind-up toy whose energy can rival that of 12 nuclear power plants.

It’s so fitting that you are now the newest endorser of Enervon (a vitamin supplement). What can you say about this?

I’m really happy with the TV commercial (TVC). It’s so well-made and it’s really me. I’ve been wanting to do a TVC with them ever since I saw the first series with Pia (Guanio), Michael V, Winnie (Cordero), Buboy (Cesar Montano) and Toni (Gonzaga).

I heard you did your own stunts and choreo-graphy in the TVC...

Yes. Thankfully, the ad agency was very open to my ideas. Some people were apprehensive at first about me doing my own stunts, especially the dangerous ones like biking on a cliff. I could’ve fallen into a ravine! (Laughs) Thank God nothing untoward happened and the shoot went very well.

Speaking of which...are things with you and Desiree del Valle going well?

I’d rather not comment on that.

C’mon! Does she make you happy?

I’m very happy with my career right now. There are so many projects and so many blessings. I couldn’t ask for more.

What about your kids...how are they?

They are my inspiration to work hard. I love them so much. I spend almost all my weekends with them.

What do you do with your time with them?

We go malling. We watch the movies they want to see. I rarely see them regularly because of work so when I do have time off, I make it a point to spend it with them.

How does Desiree relate to the kids...?

You’re really trying to get me, Jet! (Laughs) I’m sorry but I’d rather not comment because my annulment case with Bianca (Lapus) is ongoing and I really can’t comment on anything regarding Desiree.

If your marriage gets annulled, are you thinking of getting remarried?

I really can’t say as my annulment case is still ongoing. Maybe after that, when everything’s fixed and everything’s done....I think I’d want to enjoy bachelorhood first. So I guess that answers your question. I don’t want to...yet. Getting married is not a joke. I should know. As long as you love someone and you are there for each other, you can prepare for the next step, which is marriage. I want to make sure the next time I get married, I’m more ready for everything. I want to be prepared. I want it to be grand—very, very grand.

CALL it the return of romance or just a love of Empire waistlines, but it seems you could make anything Jane Austen wrote—a captioned doodle? a grocery list? a penmanship exercise?—into a box-office smash. All six of her novels have become feature films or miniseries; in January a Masterpiece Theatre project will introduce new adaptations of four; and in theaters now is yet another Austen-related work.

‘WHERE’S the father of the baby?” the priest asked, a bewildered look palpable on his face, as he was about to baptize the baby.

“Father, he just had to pass by for the balloons because the supplier got sick and can’t deliver,” answered one of the godparents.

    “So, where’s the mom?”
