Bubuwit
feels that management of a top well-known company must
be prepared to tell its side of a story and tell it well
if free enterprise is to survive. It must also tell the
story fully and honestly.
Bubuwit
intimates that this top company just allows their PR man
to appear for a public interview, but they caution him
to say only what is in a prepared script. “This is poor
public relations no matter how you say it. It is a far
cry from honest disclosure,” Bubuwit howls.
Moreover, it is a misuse of a PR man. It should not be
his responsibility to act as buffer for top management.
Rather, he should be the one arranging for the senior
officer of the company to be interviewed under the most
favorable circumstances possible. Until management is
prepared to recognize this, a great deal of its public
relations effort is dissipated.
But what
can he do? Bubuwit asks. These senior executives are
very reluctant to appear publicly on anything that is
controversial. And worst, the staff of their internal PR
says hallelujah to the top heads. They’re being paid
high salaries, didn’t you know that? Bubuwit thinks that
this company is being run by a group of irresponsible
scoundrels. Ouch! |
