THE controversy generated by two multimillion-dollar, foreign loan-funded projects in the information, communications and technology (ICT) sector has mainly focused on the selection process, the suppliers’ qualifications and their patrons; the more basic argument, however, is that neither the so-called “NBN” nor the “cyber-ed” projects, both aggressively pushed by China, pass basic economic arguments, and thus will grossly disadvantage Filipino taxpayers.

  • Remembering Sin A monument meant to perpetuate the memory and legacy of the late Manila archbishop, Cardinal Jaime Sin, will be unveiled on Tuesday at the public plaza named after him in New Washington, Aklan, his birthplace. Measuring 13.5 feet high and with a 10-foot base, the statue donated by his long-time friend, Ambassador Antonio Cabangon Chua, was sculpted by the design studio of the Castrillo brothers. Newly elected New Washington Mayor Edgar Peralta, Vice Mayor Jean Tejada and immediate former mayor Edmund Peralta are leading the preparations of the unveiling and blessing ceremonies which will also coincide with Sin’s birth anniversary.
