  • GRP, MILF hurdle ‘domain’ issues

    By Mia Gonzalez

    Reporter

PRESIDENT Arroyo said on Thursday that Mindanao is closer to attaining sustainable development following the removal of the remaining hurdle—differences over the ancestral-domain issue—to formal peace negotiations with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Chief peace adviser Hermogenes Esperon said late Wednesday night this happened when government panel chairman Rodolfo Garcia and MILF counterpart Mohaqer Iqbal signed the minutes of the panels’ executive session in Kuala Lumpur, finally putting to rest the long-standing contentious issue of ancestral domain.

The two will meet on July 24 to finalize the date for the final signing of the memorandum of agreement on ancestral domain, which will pave the way for resumption of peace formal negotiations.
