    Stricter this time

THE technical committee of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) made its presence felt early in Season 71 when it told the referees to slap technical fouls on the De La Salle and Ateneo coaching staff Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Season 71 basketball commissioner Chito Narvasa said the technical fouls were part of the new rules implemented this season.

“These new rules were discussed during a meeting [with the coaches] and the UAAP board was informed about this and it’s up to the respective athletic directors to disseminate the information,” said Narvasa.

“The problem is walang representative ang De La Salle sa coaches meeting and I think Ateneo just sent a representative,” Narvasa added.

The De La Salle bench was slapped a technical foul before the opening tip off because a member of the coaching staff did not wear his authorized UAAP identification card.

Black, on the other hand, got his “T” after excessively complaining to the referees.

Pumaren, however, claimed a member of the University of Santo Tomas coaching staff did not wear his ID card Saturday, while Black stressed he was merely explaining his point to the referees.
