  • Binay asks MMDA to account for
    local governments’ contribution

    Correspondent

THE Makati City government on Tuesday asked the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to account for the millions of pesos in contributions from the local governments in the metropolis, that are now facing another garbage crisis following the closure of the dump in Rodriguez, Rizal.

“I cannot understand why the MMDA cannot resolve the issue regarding Montalban [Rodriguez] when it has the funds for it. Makati has been remitting its contribution to the MMDA as required by law and the least the agency can do is to do its work,” Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay said.

Meanwhile, the Makati City government is studying the filing of charges against personnel from the Sidewalk Clearing Operation Group of the MMDA for alleged mauling several garbage collection personnel Tuesday morning.

Danilo Villas, head of the city’s Department of Environmental Services, identified two of the alleged victims as Juancho Segovia and Joseph Alejandro of RTM Royal Waste Management. The two were taken to the Ospital ng Makati after they were mauled allegedly by MMDA personnel.
