  • Papi picks ‘BM’ as Best Business Newspaper

BUSINESSMIRROR, the fast-expanding daily newspaper venture of businessman Antonio Cabangon L. Chua, will be conferred an award of distinction after it was named as the 2007 Best Business Newspaper of the Year by the Publishers Association of the Philippines Inc. (Papi).

In a letter to BusinessMirror publisher T. Anthony C. Cabangon, Papi president Juan P. Dayang said the award will be given on June 24 to coincide with the second day of Papi’s two-day 12th Executive Session and 2008 Midyear Media Conference to be held at the Makati Sports Club, Makati City.

The first ever to be handed out by Papi, the award recognized the “highest standards of professional journalism” the BusinessMirror has adhered to over the past years, Dayang said.

He said the paper’s espousing of a “broader look at today’s business has redefined the scope and thrusts of business reportage, given the shifting trends in the globalization of the national economy.

“As a result, BusinessMirror has unlocked new market niches that put premium on entrepreneurship as the driving force in the fiercely competitive world of business,” Dayang said.

He said the awarding will lend a measure of significance and relevance to the centerpiece theme of Papi’s meeting—“A Crucial Challenge: the Strategic Role of the Press in Food Security.”
