Manny Pacquiao has been experiencing cough and
colds days after his latest promotional tour in
San Francisco,
California.
This was
revealed by the boxing champ himself during an overseas
call by the BusinessMirror moments before he hit the
sack Sunday night at his posh Palazzo apartment in Park
La Brea in Los Angeles.
“Apat
na araw na din ito pero wala naman problema. Noong
Sabado naka-spar pa ako ng 10 rounds,” said
Pacquiao Monday.
The
29-year-old holder of the World Boxing Council (WBC)
super-featherweight belt will target the WBC lightweight
crown of David Diaz in a 12-round battle on June 28 at
the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pacquiao,
with a record of 46-3-2, 35 by knockouts, will be
campaigning in the tough 135-lb division for the first
time in his career.
Early
last week, Pacquiao and Diaz held a free public workout
at the WestWind martial-arts school in
Berkeley. After their workout, it took Pacquiao almost an hour before
he could take even a bite of his steak and plain rice as
he was besieged by autograph seekers.
This
Thursday (Manila time), Pacquiao and Diaz will continue
their tour in San Diego, where a throng of boxing fans
are expected to attend.
“I don’t
mind this at all. I want to make everyone happy. I’m
surprised there are so many people today,” Pacquiao told
the widely read San Francisco Chronicle last week. “But
I know I have a lot of supporters here.”
Pacquiao
recently won the WBC super-featherweight crown via split
verdict over bitter Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez on
March 15 also in Las Vegas. The win made Pacquiao the
first-ever three-division world champion in Asia as he
also held titles in the flyweight and super-bantamweight
divisions.
The
31-year-old southpaw Diaz (34-1-1 with 14 knockouts) was
crowned the regular WBC lightweight champion when he
outpointed Morales in their 12-round encounter August of
last year in Rosemont, Illinois.
Before
that win over Morales, Diaz captured the interim belt
with a 10th-round TKO over Jose Armando Sta. Cruz in
August 2006 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas,
Nevada.
Diaz’s
last bout was beneath the Marquez-Pacquiao rematch where
the Chicago native won a 10-round verdict against
Mexican Ramon Montano. |
