PRESIDENT Arroyo will go on a week-long official visit
to the US next month to further strengthen bilateral
ties with the world’s only superpower, and discuss with
President Bush issues related to food security,
environmental protection, and Myanmar, among others,
Malacañang announced on Thursday.
“President Arroyo will be in
Washington DC and
New York City
on 23-29 June 2008 to meet with key US government
officials and members of Congress, Filipino World War II
veterans, the leaders and members of the Filipino
American Community, business people, investors and
environmental groups,” Bunye said.
She will meet with Mr. Bush at the White House, where
she hopes to discuss with him food security, protection
of the environment, the Philippine Defense Reform
program, counterterrorism, nonproliferation, Asean’s
community building, human rights,
Myanmar,
and global trade.
In New York, the President will meet with business and investment groups and will
host a reception for the Permanent Representatives of
the United Nations in connection with the candidature of
Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago to the International
Court of Justice. |
