MORE than three out of four people think Manny Pacquiao will win by knockout over David Diaz.

In a poll conducted on the boxer’s web site mannypacquiao.ph, nearly half of the respondents—46.5 percent, to be exact—said they believe Pacquiao will floor Diaz in the late rounds. Some 30 percent said Pacquiao will do it in the early stages.

The total number of respondents was 15,731 as of Wednesday.

A minuscule 12 percent thought Pacquiao will win by decision. Overall, more than four out of five think Pacquiao will win regardless of the manner.

A Diaz victory is slim, the poll result showed. Less than 8 percent said Diaz would win by knockout. Overall, only 11 percent believed Diaz would come away from the match still the champion.

The World Boxing Council lightweight championship will be on the line in their June 28 battle, the heaviest weight class—title or nontitle bout—Pacquiao would fight in.

The respondents who said the match would end in a draw accounted for less than 1 percent.

Pacquiao and Diaz are both power punchers, leading many to believe their gig will be action-packed. The theory is almost reflected on the poll, with 84 percent saying the match will end via stoppage.

In his last two fights, Pacquiao was stretched to the limit before he claimed victory. He won by a unanimous decision over Marco Antonio Barrera last October and then by a split decision over Juan Manuel Marquez in March.

Diaz’s last two victories also went to the judges’ scorecards. He won a 10-rounder over Ramon Montano by a majority decision in March and a unanimous decision against Erik Morales in August 2007.

Pacquiao is Diaz’s first challenger to the lightweight belt since the Morales bout.
