    DHL launches Gogreen Express
    in Asia-Pacific for a 3% premium

DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics company, has launched Gogreen Express, an environment-friendly service that reduces the transportation emissions of shipments in the Asia- Pacific region.

Gogreen Express is part of the Gogreen range of carbon-neutral and low-carbon shipping options already available to DHL customers in Europe. The service was first launched in January 2007 at the World Economic Forum in Davos to help the forum achieve its carbon-neutral commitment. In Asia-Pacific, the service will be available in 17 countries across the region over the course of this year.

With this value-added service, DHL aims to meet the demands of customers who are looking for a more environmentally responsible shipping option. Customers will pay an additional 3 percent “green premium” on top of standard delivery charges to enroll in the service.

“DHL prioritizes sustainable and environment-friendly initiatives.  We have continuously streamlined our systems and processes to ensure that we leave a minimal environmental footprint.  In addition, we have created products and services that will allow our clients to partner us in our conservation efforts. The DHL Gogreen Express is an easy-to-use carbon-neutral service that proactively addresses the climate-change challenge,” the company said in a statement, quoting Ahmad Mohamad, DHL Express Philippines country manager.

The amount of carbon dioxide produced by the shipment will be offset by DHL through carbon-reduction projects such as alternative vehicle technology, solar panels and reforestation projects.  Clients who use Gogreen Express will also receive assistance and certification from Deutsche Post World Net’s Carbon Management group.  Deutsche Post is DHL’s parent firm.

Gogreen Express customers who are regularly audited for gas emissions can submit the DHL credit certificates as proof of their environmental compliance. Clients can be further assured of Gogreen Expresses’ processes since it is annually verified by the Swiss-based Societe Generale de Surveillance, an independent certifying body.

Gogreen Express packages are monitored with DHL’s patented Automated Customer Calculation of Environmental Performance Tool, or Accept. Accept calculates the amount of carbon dioxide generated by transporting each specific consignment from a country of origin to its destination.

DHL has also introduced biofueled or hybrid vehicles in various DHL country offices in Asia-Pacific such as in India, which has over 200 compressed natural gas vehicles; and DHL Japan, which uses hybrid vehicles, fuel-cell cars and bicycles in its operations.

DHL’s freight-forwarding business also achieved certification for Environmental Management System ISO14001:2004 across its entire operations in Asia-Pacific, covering 188 locations in 15 countries. This makes DHL Global Forwarding the first and only freight forwarder to achieve full umbrella certification for Environment Management System ISO14001: 2004 in Asia- Pacific.
