Philippine construction firms went on a business
matching mission to Qatar to capture a slice of the
booming infrastructure business and at the same time
improve the image of the Philippines as more a source of
expertise and technology and not so much of domestics.
Philippine ambassador to Qatar Isaias Begonia identified
the eight construction and allied services companies as
the H.S. Pow Construction and Development Corporation,
Sta. Clara International Corporation, Romago
Incorporated, Worldchem Enviro Technologies
Incorporated, Zarrbuilt Construction, LEY Construction
and Development Corporation, Philippine Institute of
Interior Designers, and Phesco Incorporated.
Executives from key public and private agencies in
Qatar, such as the Qatar Petroleum, Salam International,
Qatari Businessmen Association, and the Qatar Chamber of
Commerce and Industry briefed the Filipino executives.
Begonia
reported to the Foreign Affairs department that the
Qatar business sector was very enthusiastic in
receiving the trade mission and the trade chamber
hosted a grand reception where the Filipinos and Qatari
executives had a more relaxed time networking.
One-on-one meetings between
the mission participants and their Qatari counterparts
were held throughout the day, added Begonia.

All set for CommunicAsia
NINE
Filipino companies led by PLDT and Globe Telecom will
strut their wares and seek new clients in Singapore’s
CommunicAsia 2007 from June 19 to 22. These companies
must be more aggressive on the international front by
networking with foreign business organizations.
Stephen
Tan, chief executive officer of Singapore Exhibition
Services Pte Ltd, stressed on Tuesday that joining
international exhibits such as CommunicAsia will open
doors for such companies in expanding their presence
outside the Philippines.
As far
as the small to medium enterprises are concerned, Tan
said joining exhibits and conferences will give them an
opportunity to be acquired by a giant company or become
an original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
The
other local firms participating in the event are Sysnet
Integrators Inc., Software Effective Solutions, Mabuhay
Satellite Corp., Institute of Electronics Engineers of
the Philippines Inc., Innove Communications (GlobeQUEST),
Emerson Network Power and the D3 Systems Inc.
They
will be accompanied by the Center for International
Trade Expositions and Missions, which is supporting
their participation, the Commission on Information and
Communications Technology, and the Philippine Software
Industry Association.
Tan told
reporters in a briefing Tuesday that the Filipino firms
will get the chance to network with executives of some
2,200 other exhibitors at the CommunicAsia 2007’s 18th
International Communications and Information Technology
Exhibition and Conference.
“Philippine companies are not aggressive. They need to
be more upfront if they want to get a bigger pie of the
external market which refers to the global environment,”
said Tan.
Global
companies such as Ericsson, Huawei Technologies, LG
Electronics, Nokia, Siemens Networks and Samsung are
among the major exhibitors of CommunicAsia.
Tan also
said the Filipino firms will be able to meet the
executives of big international companies that could
adopt whatever specialties they are offering. --M.
