Dorothy
Delasin came up with final-round three-under 68 to place
fifth in the SemGroup Championship at Cedar Ridge in
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Delasin
put herself in a position to challenge for a Ladies
Professional Golf Association crown for the first time
in years, but her second-half showing in the four-day
tournament wasn’t enough to compensate for a lackluster
start.
Still,
Delasin gave a good fight. She finished with four
birdies and was under-par for the second straight round.
She was tied with world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa of Mexico and
Brittany Lang of the US with a three-over 287.
Delasin
took home $62,719 (P2.65 million).
Paula
Creamer won the championship via playoff.
Jennifer
Rosales was tied for 67th after churning in a 19-over
303. She received $3,873 (P0.16 million).
Floro
real deal
VALERIANO “BONES” FLORO lived up to the pretournament
hype as he outplayed more than 160 fellow Mercedes-Benz
owners to win the championship in the centerpiece Class
A division in the third MercedesTrophy National Final
held recently at the posh Santa Elena Golf Club in Santa
Rosa, Laguna.
Floro,
one-half of the pair which won the 12th Santa Elena Cup
last month, assembled nines of 40-38 for a gross of
six-over-par 78. With a handicap of nine, he tallied 40
points via the Stableford scoring in the one-day local
leg of the 18-year-old prestigious and worldwide popular
MercedesTrophy golf tournament.
But more
important, the victory guaranteed Floro one of six slots
for the official Team CATS squad, which will fly
business class to Australia courtesy of Philippine
Airlines (PAL), to represent the Philippines in the
nine-country MercedesTrophy Regional Final of the
Daimler AG, slated in Sydney, Australia, in July.
“Contrary to what people thought, this was a hard-earned
win for me, especially with the presence of some of the
country’s best amateur golfers. Nevertheless, I am very
happy and very eager to don the Philippine colors to the
MercedesTrophy Regional Final Down Under. I promise to
do my best,” Floro said.
Hubert
Lim matched Floro’s output and finished tied for first,
but was declared runner-up after the countback. Still,
Lim will join the Australian sojourn as part of
MercedesTrophy’s and CATS Motors’ package of sending the
champion and runner-up of each of the three divisions.
Joining
Floro and Lim is businessman Chandra Anamirtham, a
Malaysian national based in the country, who churned out
41 points to top Class B, and Gonzalo Roque, who
outclassed his Class C rivals with 37 points.
Completing the Team CATS are
runners-up Park
Ill Kyoung (Class B) and Antonio Cotoco (Class C). Emy
Arcilla, CATS Motors PR director, will likewise travel
to
Australia, through PAL, with the team as the country
captain.
“We
believe that this batch of golfing Mercedes-Benz owners
could be the ones who can bring home the coveted
MercedesTrophy overall crown for the first time. We wish
them all the luck in
Australia,”
said CATS Motors chairman Greg Yu and president Felix
Ang.
