    Chrysler launches all-new
    2008 Town & Country
    By Andy Sevilla

CATS Motors Inc., exclusive distributor of Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles in the Philippines last week launched the 2008 Town & Country at the Manila Polo Club.

“True to Chrysler’s American heritage of innovation and luxury, the all-new Chrysler Town & Country embodies the brand’s famed legacy of premium quality and styling for a first-class family experience,” said Felix Ang, president of CATS Motors Inc., who introduced Peter MacKenzie, managing director of Chrysler Southeast Asia Pte. Ltd., and Thomas Brennan of the United States Commercial Service—two of the special guests.

Two samples of the vehicles, both of which were Touring Editions, both selling at an introductory price of P2.38 million, went on display on the polo field. Each one had the Stow ’n’ Go seating system, which features a second-row bench seat with fold-in-floor third-row seat. The Limited Edition, which is arriving either in the third or fourth quarter of the year, has the now-famous Swivel ’n’ Go second row with a removable table that swivel 180° to face the third row, covered storage bins in the second-row floor, third-row uncovered storage and fold-in-the-floor third-row seating. No price has been earmarked yet for the said variant.

Ultimate minivan. The 2008 Chrysler Town & Country raises the bar anew in its segment.

“Introducing the new Chrysler Town & Country here today strengthens our commitment to deliver world-class products that will delight our customers and exceed their expectations. We know that just delivering the product itself is only the start of the journey, and to truly exceed our customers’ expectations we need world-class service and support. Through the commitment and professionalism of our partner CATS Motors, Inc. here in the Philippines, we have every faith our customers will be truly delighted with the entire Chrysler Town & Country experience,” MacKenzie said.

The all-new Chrysler Town & Country exterior has clean, tailored lines that create better aerodynamics and a solid stance on the road. Unique exterior-design cues include a distinctive front end with the “face of Chrysler” grille featuring the Chrysler winged badge, quad headlamps and clean, tailored lines. Chrome accents that include the belt molding, mirror cap, light bar and door handles make the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country a noticeable member of the Chrysler family.

Other fun features also include a dual DVD system that can play different media at the same time, MyGIG Multimedia Entertainment System with available surround sound, LED pinpoint reading lamps, ambient halo lighting, a removable, sliding center console and removable flashlight in the tailgate give more options to families on the go. Other practical features are heated first- and second-row cloth or leather seats; remote start; second- and third-row sunshades; personalized navigation backgrounds; YES Essentials stain resistant, odor resistant, anti-static fabric; an umbrella holder next to the driver’s seat; removable, dishwasher-safe cup holders; second-row power windows and third-row power folding seat provide the comforts of home while on the road.

Safety continues to be paramount in the design of the Chrysler Town & Country minivan. All-row side supplemental curtain air bags and an Electronic Stability Program are among the standard safety features on the 2008 Chrysler minivans. With innovations like a patented, energy-absorbing steering column, driver and passenger knee blocker, integrated child safety seats, LATCH (Lower Anchor and Tethers for Children) a rearview interior-conversation mirror, available ParkSense Rear Park Assist System and ParkView Rear Back-up Camera, the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country ensures peace of mind when traveling.

What should make “the family room on wheels” move smoothly is the 3.8-liter V6 engine mated to a six-speed transmission that produces 193 hp at 5,000 rpm and 314 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The six-speed transaxle’s higher numerical first gear launches the new 2008 minivan more briskly than a four- or five-speed transaxle. It also provides smaller steps between ratios, which means the engine speed changes less with each shift and makes the shifts feel smoother and engages a more appropriate ratio for any driving situation.
