AWARD-WINNING actor Aga Muhlach is still a much
sought-after leading man. In fact, young actress Anne
Curtis unabashedly admitted that it was her dream for
the longest time to be paired with the better half of
Charlene Gonzalez. It took her more than a decade to
fulfill that dream via the movie When Love Begins
produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films, directed by Jose
Javier Reyes.
Among
his contemporaries, it’s only Aga who has resisted the
“urge” to accept father roles in soap operas or even in
the movies, even when other actors younger than him
began doing so.
“You
know, this is what makes the [movies] different. When
you do a soap opera, it’s anything goes. I don’t know
because I think this works on TV but we can’t say the
same thing when it comes to movies. In the movies, you
have all the titles to choose from,” says Aga, who
appears on the ABS-CBN sitcom That’s My Doc,
which is now on a new time slot.

“Well,
I’m just happy doing my sitcom and I will fight for
that. I will fight for our show. I am happy to announce
that we’ve changed our time slot. We are now airing on
Saturdays, 6 pm, which is ideal for a show that is
geared toward kids,” says Aga.
The
actor didn’t hide his displeasure when ABS-CBN put the
show in a late-evening slot even if it is targeted at
kids. “I don’t hide the fact that I really felt bad
about that. We were doing a show for kids and they put
us at 9 pm. Not even my kids were able to watch the show
then,” Aga candidly reveals.
“I felt
bad not for myself, but for everybody else involved in
the show. We were doing a good show for young people,
for kids, but it seemed they took our efforts for
granted. But I’m happy now that they did something to
correct the situation and I’m really grateful,” he adds.
Since
the sitcom is geared for kids, new cast members—all
kids—were added to the cast, including Jairus Aquino (Kung
Fu Kids), Sophia Baars (Princess Sarah) and
Bronson (Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo). Of course, the
show also includes the old, namely, Nova Villa, Roderick
Paulate, Lara Quigaman, Bayani Agbayani, Pokwang and
Celine Lim.
Aga was
also asked to comment about the sentiments of Judy Ann
Santos regarding Star Cinema. The actress’s Ploning,
which she produced and stars in, is currently competing
with When Love Begins for box-office attendance.
“I don’t
want to comment on that anymore. It’s really none of my
business if there’s a tampo-tampo issue. I’m out
of that. I only do one movie a year and I don’t have
control over when my movie opens in theaters,” says Aga.
While
the end-product of his weeks of working with Joey Reyes,
Anne Curtis and the rest of the cast and crew has served
to inspire Aga, the actor greeted the movie’s release
with mixed emotions. “After a movie is released, then
that’s it, you have arrived at the end-point of that
project. That’s why I would like to take this
opportunity to really thank Anne for the opportunity of
working with her. I had fun, really,” he says.
When
Love Begins
is the first pairing of Aga and Anne, who play lovers
who say no to commitment. This is his seventh movie with
Joey Reyes, having worked together in such award-winning
movies as Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal, May Minamahal
and Kung Ako Na Lang
Sana.
Would
Aga allow his twins Andres and Atasha to enter showbiz?
“My
children will decide for themselves in time, when they
are already of age, probably when they are already in
high school or college. But if you’re asking me right
now if I would allow my kids to enter showbiz, I don’t
want them to do so,” he says. “Yes, this is my job and
showbiz has been good to me, but my dream is for my
children to finish school and get a degree. And since
their parents are still active in showbiz, kami na
lang muna ang mag-aartista.” |
