THE recently concluded National Police Chief Cup shooting tournament in Clark Field, Pampanga, was able to raise P2 million, which will go to the Pulis Gawad Kalinga Special Housing Project for policemen.

Director General Avelino Razon Jr., National Police chief, said the fundraising event, the biggest practical-shooting competition of the year, was participated in by over 700 local and foreign shooters who joined the six-day, 24-stage tournament that was sanctioned by the International Practical Shooting Confederation.

“This support by the international practical-shooting community to the National Police Housing Program will go a long way in boosting the morale of policemen and inspire them to perform better,” Razon said.

Organizers of the tournament will formally turn over the proceeds of the shooting competition to the National Police Housing Board, chaired by Deputy Director General Jesus Verzosa, at the traditional flag-raising ceremony on Monday in Camp Crame.

Twenty-seven police teams vied for top honors in the individual and team events in the handgun, shotgun and rifle divisions. Razon will present the awards on Monday to the top finishers.

The overall National Police Team Competition title was won by the Manila Police District, while the National Headquarters and Special Action Force settled for first and second runner-up, respectively.

The Police Regional Office 5 team from Bicol blasted at steel targets with their scatterguns for the Team Championship in the Shotgun event, while marksmen of the National Capital Region Police Office cleared six simulated close-quarter-battle stages to win the Rifle Team event.

The shooting squad of Police Regional Office 11 led by Chief Supt. Andres Caro II won the championship title in the Team vs Team event.

Senior Police Officer 4 Anthony Sy of the Manila Police District (MPD) was the champion in the Handgun Production Division.

Chief Insp. Lito Patay of Police Regional Office 11 won the championship title in the National Police Standard Handgun category, while Senior Supt. Noel Constantino and Supt Michael John Dubria won the Standard Shotgun and Standard Manual Shotgun divisions, respectively.

Supt. Ronald dela Rosa won the championship title in the individual Open Rifle Division, while SPO1 Alnil Lepasana won the Standard Rifle Division.
