Congratulations to the cast and crew of Star Cinema’s
When Love Begins. The Aga Muhlach-Anne Curtis
starrer is making a killing in the box office, according
to a source. Reportedly, halfway through its opening, it
had already pulled in P10 million.
I
haven’t seen it yet but I’ve heard many nice things said
about the movie, mostly from gays and fag hags who say
that the dialogues penned by writer-director Joey Reyes
are very memorable and worthy of being immortalized. Who
knows? Maybe it will work its way into Pinoy pop
culture.
Thank
God, the title of this movie was changed at the last
minute. It was supposed to be titled Love Begins With
One Hello....Hello?!?!? With due respect to Deniece
Williams, or whoever ’80s diva was behind the song, the
title deserves to be just that—a song title. When
Love Begins indeed makes for better name of romantic
drama.
Anyway,
congratulations again to Star Cinema.
Kudos
also to the people behind Ploning, the
self-produced indie of Judy Ann Santos,
for also being a box-office hit and for garnering an A
grading from the Cinema Evaluations Board.
Much
kudos to Judy Ann for taking a risk in producing this
movie that she truly believes in. I know for a fact that
she went through a lot just to get this movie done, but
at least it’s doing well and she can now sigh a breath
of relief. I hope she will continue to produce more
movies.

THIS
year Lea Salonga, the most successful Filipino ever to
trailblaze the world of international musical theater
and recording, marks her 30th colorful year in the
business where her trademark has always lived up to
global standards of excellence.
What
better way to celebrate this momentous event in her life
than to look back at the musical journey by way of a
two-night concert production that will span a world of
theatrical history and outstanding possibilities still.
In this
concert, billed Lea...My Life...On Stage, slated
on May 23 and 24, 8 pm, at the Philippine International
Convention Center (PICC), the lady of the stage extends,
expands and explores, with one eye looking back at all
that has been, and one eye out for all that is yet to
come.
Lea has
mapped out this concert together with her brother,
award-winning musical director Gerard Salonga, and
FILharmoniKa, along with long-time mentor and
multiawarded stage director Freddie Santos to include
her auspicious beginnings with Repertory Philippines all
the way to her West End and Broadway triumphs to this
day, where Lea is simply not resting on her laurels but
continues to let the excellence of the Filipino shine in
her every endeavor.
Expect
Lea and Gerard to give life to all the songs that have
endeared her to the world and so much more in this
two-night musical event.
