    Lea in a concert-musical first

“IT’S not going to be your usual concert.” Thus promises multiawarded director Freddie Santos, when asked to detail what exactly will happen in the two-night anniversary show that Lea Salonga’s camp is cooking come May 23 and 24 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

Two-time Best Director Awardee, Freddie Santos had been specifically tasked to provide the show’s concept, format, theme and execution at the onset of the decision to celebrate the international actress-singer’s 30th anniversary in show business. He says, “This is essentially a musical, detailing the numerous highlights of Lea’s career by way of songs that have greatly played a major role in her history.”

A lot agreed when it was said that Freddie could be the only person credible and equipped enough to take on this responsibility of tracking Lea’s career this way. Not many may remember it but aside from being one of Lea’s teachers at the OB Montessori in Greenhills, Freddie was also her very first leading man in Repertory’s musical’s Annie, where he played Daddy Warbucks.

It was in that musical when the tiny, but immensely talented, nine-year-old showed everyone that she has got what it takes to conquer the world. Freddie says he already saw it then, remembering being astounded by her unique talent and singing voice as Lea sang “Tomorrow” night after night, seeing the rest of the audience equally mesmerized by Lea.

Today Freddie will be the very first to admit how proud he is of Lea’s achievements. That’s why in this show, they have pooled all their creative resources in order to come up with an event befitting Lea’s stature. Helping Freddie realize this vision is none other than Lea’s talented brother and award-winning musical director Gerard Salonga and the FilharmoniKa. The repertoire that they have put together for this unique two-night presentation promises to be unforgettable.

Be ready to journey with Lea and remember the glorious highlights that earned the world’s admiration not only for her but for other Filipinos as well. Be there on May 23 and 24, 8 pm, at the PICC and take part in Lea...My Life...On Stage.

The show, produced by Ambient Events Inc., is being presented by EnfaKid, with media partners Philippine Star, ABS-CBN and Crossover 105.1. The show is also being sponsored by Hotel Sofitel, BPI, Sony-BMG Music Entertainment, Bayo, Hapee Toothpaste, Jewelmer and Crowne Plaza Hotel.
