NARVASA was named the commissioner of the basketball
competitions of the coming University Athletic
Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season.
Dean
Hercules Callanta of host University of the Philippines
(UP) confirmed Narvasa’s appointment to the
BusinessMirror Monday. Callanta also said the 71st UAAP
season will start on July 5 at the Araneta Coliseum.
Narvasa
is the president of the Basketball Coaches Association
of the Philippines (BCAP). He was the commissioner of
the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) last
year. For its coming season, the NCAA has picked Joe
Lipa as its commissioner.
Narvasa
is expected to bring his own group of officials from the
NCAA, including Alfrancis Chua, the former coach of Sta.
Lucia in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), as
well as his brother, Ogie.
Narvasa
played for Ateneo in his college days and had coaching
stints with Shell and Purefoods in the PBA.
UP faces
National University in the first game on opening day,
followed by the tussle between runner-up University of
the East and University of Santo Tomas.
Defending champion De La Salle meets archrival Ateneo
the following day and so will Adamson and
Far Eastern University. |
