CLIENTS can now get the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor in systems from Hewlett-Packard (HP), processor maker ADVANCED Micro Devices (AMD) said in a statement.

The HP ProLiant G5 platforms are the first of many systems expected to be available from global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system builders that use the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor, AMD said.

“HP has experienced unparalleled success over the past four years in bringing AMD Opteron processor-based platforms to commercial customers of all sizes,” said Seah Kwang Leng, HP Asia Pacific and Japan marketing manager for industry standard servers. “HP continues to respond to customers who see the benefit in our unique Direct Connect Architecture with some of the industry’s most innovative designs. These latest ProLiant servers are a major leap forward and take advantage of the increased performance, energy efficiency and sophisticated virtualization and power management enabled by the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor.”

“We are proud to be the first OEM to market with Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor-based servers. Customers with demanding applications and those deploying virtualization can choose from the widest range of AMD Opteron processor-based HP ProLiant servers including blade, rack and tower platforms to efficiently manage the required workloads,” said Tan See Ghee, AMD Far East Ltd. technology director for South Asia. “Our ability to deliver superior price and performance has been a driving factor that’s led customers to vote with their wallets and make HP ProLiant the highest selling brand of AMD Opteron processor-based servers today.”

In a statement, AMD said the new systems include the HP ProLiant DL385 G5, DL585 G5 and the BL685c G5 that have set a new performance record for x86-based categories and configurations.
