AFTER a grueling 108-hole qualifying tournament at Sherwood Hills and Canlubang, 34 kids made it through the cut and are headed for the Callaway Junior World Championships in San Diego, California, in July.

Jobim Carlos and Sunshine Baraquiel posted convincing victories in Class A boys and girls and are expected to lead the way for the Philippine campaign in the Callaway event.

Class A runners-up Wolen Superal, the Junior World winner in the boys’ nine-10 years old class in 2005, Marvin Mendoza and Arbole are also joining the boys’ squad in the US trip.

Regina de Guzman and Louise Manalo (Class A girls); Remo Fueg, Dino de la Paz, Vijay Vasandani and Kevin Orillos (Class B boys); and Andrea Unson, Sarah Jane Ababa, Marvi Monsalve and Katya de la Cruz (Class B girls) are also flying to San Diego.

The other members of the team are Chihiro Ikeda, who was seeded for winning the Philippine Ladies Open, and the now Florida-based Dottie Ardina, who placed second in the girls’ 13-to-14 years old division last year.

Philippine Airlines is sponsoring the tickets of the division champions as part of its annual support to the local junior golf movement through the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines headed by Amalia “Tita Maling” Montecillo.

The other qualifiers are Miggy Yee, AR Ramos, Keanu Jahns (Class C boys); Princess Superal, Daniela Uy, Juily Vasandani and Felicia Medalla (Class C girls); Rupert Zaragosa, Justin Dy, Kristoffer Arevalo (Class D boys); Mia Legaspi, Abegail Arevalo, Pauline del Rosario and Bianca Pagdanganan (Class D girls); Shailesh Vasandani, Ryan Monsalve, (Class E boys); Chloe Reyes, Kristine Torralba (Class E girls); Alex Bernard Trinos, Josh Jorge, Matthew Miravite (Class F boys); and Francesca Olivarez Ilas and Nicolai Abelar (Class F girls).
