THE
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will convince all
national sports association (NSA) to form their junior
teams as the country aims to send athletes to the 2010
Youth Olympics in Singapore.
PSC
chairman William Ramirez said besides the Youth
Olympics, the government sports agency has in its sight
the more important 2012 London Olympic Games.
“We are
in search of athletes below 18 years old. We will train
them now for the 2012 Olympics,” said Ramirez.
The PSC
will discuss with NSA officials the inclusion of junior
training teams into the national pool and their
privileges like allowances and billeting.
Ramirez
said the plan is in response to the suggestion of Sen.
Gringo Honasan and Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero, who are
both focused on the 2012 London Olympics.
“Maybe a
select field of sports leaders could gather and discuss
what action and remedies are needed to prop up our
chances in their respective disciplines, maybe in 2012
if nothing would come out in Beijing. We have to be
realistic, but not to the point of taking our faith away
from our bets in Beijing,” Escudero said recently.
The PSC,
Ramirez said, is also formulating a coaches’
accreditation council that will evaluate the quality of
national coaches. |
